Henry Ford Health hospital reaches deal with support staff, nursing strike looms

Henry Ford Genesys Hospital in Grand Blanc, Mich., has reached a labor agreement with support services staff, the hospital confirmed in a statement shared with Becker’s. However, a scheduled Sept. 1 strike by the hospital’s nurses lies ahead.

“We’re pleased to report we’re starting the week with a new contract in place for our 370 team members who serve in support services roles and are represented by the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Local 3518,” a system spokesperson said.

“With this contract we recognize the essential contributions our valued team members make every day. They help keep our hospital running smoothly, ensuring our patients and community have a safe, welcoming environment. We look forward to moving ahead together united in our commitment to our patients, our community and one another,” the statement added.

The agreement comes as Genesys Hospital braces for a planned strike Sept. 1 by members of Teamsters Local 332, who represent approximately 700 registered nurses. The union and hospital began negotiating a new labor contract in the spring.

Genesys Hospital joined Detroit-based Henry Ford Health in October 2024 through a joint venture with Ascension Michigan.

Becker’s has reached out to the AFSCME local, and will update this story if a comment is received.
