B Braun Medical recalls 2 IV fluids

B Braun Medical has recalled two intravenous fluid products, lactated ringers injection USP 1,000 milliliter and 0.9% sodium chloride injection USP 1,000 milliliter, due to the presence of particulate matter in the container.

If particulate matter is found in the solutions, it could cause serious complications, including pulmonary embolism, vascular occlusion, phlebitis, immune system activation or organ damage, according to an Aug. 19 news release from the FDA.

Customers are advised to quarantine and cease use of affected lots and to contact the devicemaker for instructions on returns.

No serious injuries or deaths have been reported, the release said.
