Allegheny Health Network boosts operating margin to 4.5% in Q2 

Pittsburgh-based Allegheny Health Network recorded an operating income of $64 million (4.5% operating margin), up from an operating loss of $25.9 million (-2.1% margin) during the same period last year, according to its Aug. 21 financial report. 

The system reported total operating revenue of $1.4 billion during the three months ended June 30, up from $1.3 billion during the same period last year. Total operating expenses were $1.4 billion, up from $1.3 billion. 

As of June 30, the system had 58 days cash on hand, up from 54 on the same date last year. 

Allegheny Health Network recorded a net income of $76.4 million in the second quarter, up from a net loss of $27 million during the same quarter last year. 

For the six months ended June 30, the system reported an operating income of $71.7 million (2.6% margin), up from an operating loss of $57.2 million (-2.3% margin) during the first half of 2024. 

Allegheny Health Network said it has experienced higher volume, improved case mix index, favorable third-party payer incentives and FEMA grants in the first half of 2025. Expansion of retail and specialty pharmacy services has also driven improvement in gross revenue and margin. The system also recognized $52.3 million in federal CARES Act funds in 2025.
