Signature Healthcare to reduce workforce by 3.8%

Brockton, Mass.-based Signature Healthcare will reduce workforce by 3.8% at its Brockton Hospital and Signature Medical Group due to ongoing financial challenges.

The health system is also pausing or discontinuing multiple planned projects and holding certain open roles after recent resignations to manage its staff levels, according to an Aug. 11 news release shared with Becker’s

Signature Healthcare comprises Brockton Hospital, Signature Medical Group and Brockton Hospital School of Nursing, according to its website.

The release said that around 80% of Signature Healthcare’s revenue comes from government payers, including Medicare and Medicaid, which have not kept up with rising care delivery costs.

The financial strain has been further compounded by high expenses associated with the August 2024 reopening of Brockton Hospital and ongoing insurance reimbursement delays related to its February 2023 closure due to an electrical fire.

“These were extremely difficult decisions that were not made lightly,” Robert Haffey, president  and CEO of Signature Healthcare, said in the release. “We are deeply grateful for the hard work and commitment of every member of our team. These changes are necessary to ensure that we can continue delivering safe, high-quality, and compassionate care to the communities we serve.”
