Wellstar scales nurse scheduling platform

Wellstar Health System is implementing an AI platform to streamline nurse scheduling at each of its 11 hospitals after a successful pilot program.

During a six-month pilot period, the Atlanta-based system tested use of an AI scheduling copilot called Swift at three hospitals. The platform, created by Vflok, an AI company focused on healthcare scheduling, led to significant reductions in administrative burdens related to shift scheduling, leaders said in a Sept. 19 news release.

The platform uses AI to handle the routine communication involved in shift scheduling, allowing staff to request, change, or fill shifts via text messages without logging into a separate system.

“Swift has shown a reduction in nurse manager burden, allowing nurse leaders to spend less time on administrative tasks associated with staffing/scheduling and more time focused on patient care and team support,” said Susan Thurman, DNP, RN, Wellstar’s vice president of nursing practice and clinical integration. “By enabling our nurses to spend more time caring for our patients and team members, we will further improve patient outcomes and team member job satisfaction.”
