Virginia system ‘1 step closer’ to opening 5th acute-care hospital, says hospital president
Newport News, Va.-based Riverside Health’s Riverside Smithfield Hospital has finished construction and is cleared for occupancy, according to a system news release. The hospital is set to open in early January 2026.
The new facility will offer 34 medical/surgical beds, 10 ICU beds, a 14-room emergency department, four operating rooms and two procedure suites.
“From the approval of our certificate of public need to receiving our certificate of occupancy, every step has been driven by one goal — serving the people of this region,” Riverside Smithfield Hospital President Jessica Macalino said. “We are honored to move one step closer to opening our doors and delivering the care they deserve, right here at home.”
