UVA Health outpatient pharmacies hit 1M medication milestone
For the first time, Charlottesville, Va.-based UVA Health’s outpatient pharmacies have dispensed more than 1 million medications in a single year, a milestone driven by growing patient demand and expanded pharmacy services.
The health system opened new retail pharmacy locations, including UVA Health Pharmacy Stoney Creek in Nellysford, an area that previously lacked pharmacy access, according to an Aug. 28 news release. This has brought the total number of outpatient pharmacy sites to nine.
Pharmacy services have also extended into more ambulatory clinics, including gynecology, oncology, neuro-oncology, neuromuscular and dermatology. Pharmacists and technicians now work within the clinics to support patients and coordinate prescription fills within the UVA Health network.
Additional efforts include expanding the Meds 2 Beds program, which delivers prescriptions to hospitalized patients before discharge to all acute care units. The home delivery pharmacy also now serves patients in 14 states, with South Carolina, Colorado and Florida added in 2025, the release said.
