UMMS hospital taps quality leader

The University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center has named Jeffrey Marshall, MD, vice president and associate chief medical officer — a role in which he will be responsible for quality, safety and regulatory compliance in both inpatient and ambulatory care settings.

Dr. Marshall has worked at the 310-bed medical center, part of the University of Maryland Medical System, since 2018. He has since held several leadership roles, including as associate chair of medicine and chair of pulmonary and critical care, according to a Sept. 2 news release.

He played a key role in opening a new critical care unit at the hospital, expanding pulmonary care offerings and launching a robotic bronchoscopy program — now the busiest in Maryland — that allows for earlier, more precise detection of lung cancer.

Dr. Marshall will continue to lead clinical trials focused on bedside interventions for critically ill patients, and oversee expansion of a lung nodule detection project using artificial intelligence, which began in the emergency department and is now being integrated into inpatient and outpatient care.
