Trinity Health taps 2 execs for operations

Livonia, Mich.-based Trinity Health has appointed two leaders, a COO and an associate COO, as part of a strategic operational realignment, according to a Sept. 10 news release shared with Becker’s.

Dan Roth, MD, executive vice president and chief clinical and community division operations officer, will succeed Ben Carter as executive vice president and COO following Mr. Carter’s retirement at the end of the year. Dr. Roth will assume his new role Jan. 1.

Additionally, Robert Casalou, president and CEO of Trinity Health Michigan and Southeast Regions, has been appointed executive vice president and associate COO for the ministry.

Both executives will lead the newly formed Office of the COO, which aims to unify and strengthen operations across the health system, according to the release.

“Given our geographic breadth and diverse services, operations at Trinity Health are vast and complex,” Trinity President and CEO Mike Slubowski said in the release. “This makes a team-based Office of the COO approach essential to strengthening and unifying operations across our ministry.

“These appointments reflect our commitment to excellence and to advancing our mission. Both leaders bring deep experience and a proven track record of advancing quality, safety and innovation in health care delivery.”

Dr. Roth, who is board-certified in internal medicine, has held key leadership roles at Trinity, including COO of Trinity Health Partners, senior vice president of clinical integration, chief clinical officer and chief of community division operations.

Mr. Casalou has held roles at Trinity including president and CEO of Trinity Health Ann Arbor (Mich.), regional president for Michigan, and currently oversees operations in Michigan, Florida and Georgia.

Trinity Health operates 93 hospitals and employs about 127,000 people across 26 states.
