Pediatric radiology workforce shrinking: What to know

The proportion of pediatric radiologists — among all radiologists in the U.S. — decreased from 6.4% to 4.6% between 2016 and 2023, according to a study published Sept. 8 in the Journal of the American College of Radiology

Researchers from Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia analyzed private payer claims data and calculated radiologists’ pediatric and adult work relative value units for the study.

Among 109,077 radiologists, 8.4% had 50% or more pediatric wRVUs, 12.4% had 25% or more pediatric wRVUs and 6.8% had 75% or more pediatric wRVUs during the study period.
