Ohio system to build $56M ED

Marysville, Ohio-based Memorial Health has shared plans for a new $56 million emergency department on its Memorial Hospital campus in Marysville.

The project aims to help meet growing healthcare needs in the area, according to a news release shared with Becker’s. Memorial Hospital’s original ED opened in 1998 and was built to serve a less complex and smaller patient population.

At the time, the ED saw around 14,000 visits per year. Now, projections estimate ED visits will rise from 29,000 to 37,000 annually by 2050.

The new ED will comprise 24 treatment rooms, up from the existing 15, with specialized behavioral health, isolation, pediatrics and trauma rooms. It will also have safety, patient and family experience improvements.

Construction of the new ED is expected to kick off in 2026, with the existing ED to continue operations during the development.

“This project is part of a master facility plan that we’ve been developing and refining over the past decade,” Chip Hubbs, president and CEO of Memorial Health, said in a Sept. 4 statement shared with Becker’s. “Our last major investments include both the $59 million inpatient and outpatient pavilions, which opened in 2020, as well as our Memorial Jerome Medical Center, scheduled for opening in spring 2026.”

Mr. Hubbs said Memorial Health has plans for further expansion, particularly in pharmacy and surgery areas, as the health system’s footprint continues to grow.
