HCA’s Mission Hospital plans to hire 200 nurses, techs in 100 days
Asheville, N.C.-based Mission Hospital is planning to expand its clinical team significantly through the end of the year, according to a local ABC 13 News report.
CEO Greg Lowe said in an email last month that the hospital was “going all out” to recruit 200 nurses and specialty techs in 100 days. The hospital’s recruiters are conducting onsite and virtual hiring events to fill the roles, and offering current team members up to $8,000 for each referral that joins the hospital.
“We are investing in our current campaign–which includes enhanced sign-on and referral bonuses–as part of our ongoing strategy to attract and retain talented professionals,” said a statement from Nancey Lindell, a spokesperson for Mission Health, to ABC 13 News. “These types of incentives have been in place in various forms for years, and they vary across the organization based on need and specialty.”
By the end of the year, Mission Health will have held or participated in 140 recruitment events in the region.
Hannah Drummond, National Nurses United’s chief nurse representative at Mission Hospital, told ABC 13 News the nursing staff has been advocating for adding nurses and questioned whether the new additions would be enough to keep up with nurse attrition.
In May, the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services investigated the hospital after 35 complaints related to management and patient care; the investigation found Mission Hospital was in compliance with Medicare’s conditions of participation and didn’t identify any deficiencies.
CMS had placed Mission Hospital in “immediate jeopardy” last February and removed the designation four months later after the hospital submitted a plan of correction.
