Duke Health’s CEO to join Kaiser Permanente
Craig Albanese, MD, is leaving Durham, N.C.-based Duke University Health System to join Kaiser Permanente.
Dr. Albanese became Duke’s vice president and COO in January 2022 and was appointed CEO in 2023. He led expansion efforts at Duke and forged AI partnerships with Microsoft and Abridge.
At Oakland, Calif.-based Kaiser Permanente, Dr. Albanese will serve as president of integrated care and coverage. He will begin his new role Sept. 29, and lead day-to-day operations for the integrated healthcare system, reporting directly to Greg Adams, chair and CEO. He will oversee market presidents, hospital operations, continuum services, pharmacy, human resources, labor strategy and consumer experience.
“Craig has a deep commitment to high-quality care delivery and is an advocate for value-based care,” said Mr. Adams. “His strong leadership and deep operations and clinical experience, gained across multiple health systems, will help further strengthen Kaiser Permanente’s operations, ensuring we can continue to meet the needs of our members and patients.”
Prior to joining Duke, Dr. Albanese previously held leadership roles at NewYork-Presbyterian, where he was chief clinical integration officer and system chief medical officer, and at Stanford Children’s Health and University of California, San Francisco.
