AI salaries skyrocket

AI salaries are on the rise, as some new college graduates with expertise in the technology are making $1 million a year, the Wall Street Journal reported.

Non-managerial workers in AI with zero to three years of experience had their base salaries increase about 12% from 2024 to 2025, the biggest gain of any experience group, per data from AI staffing firm Burtch Work cited in the Aug. 26 story.

Annual base salaries include generative-AI research scientists with as little as two years’ experience making between $190,000 and $260,000 at Databrick, machine-learning engineers with zero to a year of experience earning over $200,000 at Roblox, and fresh-out-of-school workers at Scale AI pulling down $200,000, the Journal reported.

“We’re eager to hire AI-native professionals, and many of those candidates are early in their careers,” Scale AI head of people Ashli Shiftan told the newspaper.
