From cardiac surgery chiefs and transplant program directors to endowed chairs and COOs, here are 15 recent appointments in the field of cardiology:

  1. Greg Kasper, MD, was appointed director of vascular services and the Len Stuart Distinguished Chair in Vascular Surgery at Cleveland Clinic’s Heart, Vascular and Thoracic Institute in Weston, Fla.
  2. Christian Pizarro, MD, was appointed chief of congenital heart surgery and director of pediatric cardiovascular surgery at New York City-based Mount Sinai Health System.
  3. Fairfax, Va.-based Inova Health System appointed five cardiology leaders:
    • Wayne Batchelor, MD, president of the Inova Medicine Service Line and director emeritus of interventional cardiology, was appointed a Schar Chair.
    • Steven Nathan, MD, medical director of the advanced lung disease and lung transplant program at Inova Schar Heart and Vascular, was appointed a Schar Chair.
    • Richard Neville, MD, chief of vascular surgery, wound care and hyperbaric medicine at Inova and associate director of Inova Schar Heart and Vascular, was appointed a Schar Chair.
    • Christopher O’Connor, MD, president of Inova Schar Heart and Vascular, was appointed the Schar Distinguished Chair — Inova’s first endowed chair.
    • Garima Sharma, MD, director of preventive cardiology and women’s cardiovascular health at Inova Schar Heart and Vascular, was appointed the Martha Schar Chair of Women’s Cardiovascular Health.
  4. Snehal Patel, MD, was appointed system director of heart failure in New Hyde Park, N.Y.-based Northwell Health’s Transplant Institute and Northwell Cardiovascular Institute, and co-director of the Northwell Transplant Institute’s Center for Heart Failure, Transplantation and Mechanical Circulatory Support.
  5. Hilary Nierenberg, RN, was appointed senior vice president of the heart and vascular service line at West Orange, N.J.-based RWJBarnabas Health.
  6. Hilary Whittington was appointed CEO of Tacoma, Wash.-based MultiCare Health System’s Pulse Heart Institute.
  7. Michael Lieb was appointed COO of Brown Mills, N.J.-based Deborah Heart and Lung Center.
  8. Mark Twite, MD, was appointed chief of cardiac anesthesia at Nemours Children’s Cardiac Center in Wilmington, Del.
  9. Bradley Taylor, MD, was appointed chief of cardiac surgery of Coral Gables, Fla.-based Baptist Health’s North region.
  10. Rabih Chaer, MD, was appointed chief of vascular and endovascular surgery at Stony Brook (N.Y.) Medicine.
  11. Eric Weiss, MD, was appointed president of cardiovascular and thoracic surgery at Miami Beach, Fla.-based Mount Sinai Medical Center.
