Virginia system launches bedside reading program

Patients and family members at Valley Health will soon have access to hundreds of free books and podcasts during their hospital stay.

Through a new bedside reading program, patients and caregivers at the Winchester, Va.-based health system will be able to scan a QR code that opens up access to a digital library of content, according to an Aug. 25 news release. The QR codes will also be available to patients visiting urgent care centers and physician practices. Employees will also have access to the program.

While no logins are required, users will have the option to create a free account to maintain access to a book or podcast they started during their hospital stay or office visit.

The program is funded by Valley Health Foundations, the system’s philanthropic arm.
