State of recruitment, compensation in oncology: 4 notes
Hematologists and oncologists are the most in-demand physicians, according to an AMN Healthcare report, “2025 Review of Physician and Advanced Practitioner Recruiting Incentives,” published Aug. 5.
The staffing agency analyzed 1,420 permanent physician and advanced practitioner recruitment requests between April 1, 2024, to March 31, 2025.
Here are four notes on hematologist and oncologist recruitment, according to AMN Healthcare:
- Hematology/oncology was the ninth most requested specialty during the reporting period.
- Of the 1,420 recruitment searches, 61 were for hematology/oncology specialists between 2024 and 2025, up from 41 in the previous reporting period, though down from a high of 96 between 2022 and 2023.
- Starting base salaries — not including bonuses, allowances or benefits — remained higher for hematologists/oncologists in non-academic positions for the fourth year in a row.
All positions | Non-academic | Academic | |
2024-2025 | $490,000 | $511,000 | $453,000 |
