
Stanford Medicine taps Mass General Hospital radiology chief
Stanford (Calif.) Medicine has appointed Umar Mahmood, MD, PhD, as chair of the system’s department of radiology.
Dr. Mahmood will step into the role Feb. 1, 2026, according to an Aug. 28 news release from the health system.
He currently serves as chief of the division of nuclear medicine and molecular imaging, director of the Center for Precision Imaging and director of the Center for Nuclear Medicine and Theranostic Sciences at Boston-based Massachusetts General Hospital.
He is also a professor of radiology at Boston-based Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Mahmood was appointed president of the Radiological Society of North America in December.
