Cleveland Clinic debuts AI platform to speed trial recruitment

Cleveland Clinic has launched Dyania Health’s Synapsis AI platform across its clinical research enterprise, following pilot programs in cardiology, oncology and neurology.

The health system and New York-based Dyania Health aim to reduce traditional enrollment delays in clinical trials by automating patient identification through medically trained large language models, according to an Aug. 27 news release. Currently, 80% of clinical trials miss enrollment timelines and 50% of trial sites fail to recruit any participants.

For a melanoma trial, the AI identified a suitable patient in 2.5 minutes with 96% accuracy, compared to 95% accuracy in 427 minutes by a melanoma-specialized nurse and 88% accuracy in 540 minutes by an oncology research nurse.

In cardiology, the platform screened more than 1.2 million records for the DepleTTR-CM trial and reviewed 1,476 in one week, identifying 30 eligible participants. In contrast, routine recruitment methods yielded 14 patients over 90 days.

The AI platform also supported neurology trials and converted medical records into structured data that allowed real-time, trial-specific patient matching.
