CEO of recently merged New York system to step down
The CEO of Centralus Health, a five-hospital system formed through the merger of Ithaca, N.Y.-based Cayuga Health System and Elmira, N.Y.-based Arnot Health in January, will leave the organization at the end of his term.
Martin Stallone, MD, has been with Cayuga Health for 17 years and has served as CEO since 2018, according to an Aug. 28 Centralus Health news release. He will join Excellus BlueCross BlueShield and its parent company, The Lifetime Healthcare Companies, on Dec. 1 as executive vice president and chief healthcare services officer.
The Centralus Health board of directors unanimously selected Robert Lawlis to succeed Dr. Stallone as CEO, effective Nov. 7. Mr. Lawlis currently serves as CEO of Cayuga Health Partners and Xtensys, both affiliated with Centralus Health. He has been with Cayuga Health for 17 years and has led systemwide projects, including the launch of Xtensys and the implementation of a unified Epic EHR.
“I believe Rob will further advance Centralus Health as a best-in-class integrated delivery network,” Dr. Stallone said in the release. “He is ideally prepared to continue efforts to integrate different parts of our health system, to advance the services we offer our communities, and to continue Centralus Health’s commitment to population health.”
Dr. Stallone oversaw multiple initiatives that enabled Centralus Health to nearly triple its size over seven years.
Mr. Lawlis’ promotion is part of a long-standing succession plan designed to ensure continuity and growth, the release said.
