Allegheny Health Network names IT chief

Richard Medford, MD, has been named chief digital information officer of Pittsburgh-based Allgheny Health Network.

Dr. Medford most recently served as chief medical informatics and digital health officer of Greenville, N.C.-based ECU Health and worked in informatics leadership at Dallas-based UT Southwestern Medical Center. He is the first U.S. physician to achieve both fellowship training and board certification in clinical informatics and infectious diseases.

He joins Alistair Erskine, MD, who was appointed in July as chief information digital officer of Allegheny Health Network parent system Highmark Health, also based in Pittsburgh, and John Gabrick, vice president of clinical information systems, digital and virtual health at Allegheny Health Network, which has 14 hospitals.

“[Dr. Medford] is an outstanding leader who brings to our organization a wealth of experience and accomplishments in leveraging data and informatics to enhance provider efficiency, clinical decision support, telemedicine and mobile health,” Allegheny Health Network President Mark Sevco said in a Aug. 25 news release. “We’re excited to have him join Dr. Erskine and John Gabrick, as we chart an exciting digital future for AHN.”
