2 dead in Oklahoma hospital shooting
Two people are dead after a shooting at Integris Health Enid (Okla.) Hospital late Aug. 17, the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation confirmed to Becker’s.
According to reports from ABC affiliate WTAE and Fox affiliate KOKH, police first responded to a home near the hospital for a possible domestic dispute about 11 p.m. Police then went to the hospital, after learning the suspect’s car was at the facility. Upon arrival, the suspect fired shots at officers before going into the hospital, according to officials with the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation.
The suspect fired multiple shots inside, striking a public safety officer at the hospital who later died. Officials said the gunman was then shot and killed by police.
“We can confirm that a domestic situation resulted in the deaths of two people overnight inside our hospital, including the shooter,” Oklahoma City-based Integris Health said in a statement to Becker’s. “We are profoundly grateful to local and state law enforcement agencies for their swift and courageous response in securing the hospital and protecting our patients, caregivers and community. We ask that any further questions be directed to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation as they are managing the investigation.”
