UCHealth resumes elective surgeries after staffing-related disruptions – Becker’s Hospital Review | Healthcare News
UCHealth University of Colorado Hospital in Aurora is rescheduling elective procedures that were recently postponed due to staffing issues in the sterile processing department.
On July 22, a UCHealth spokesperson said some elective surgeries were postponed due to insufficient staffing levels within the sterile processing department. The Colorado Department of Public Health confirmed it was conducting a “complaint investigation” at the hospital, though declined to share further details due to an ongoing review.
As of July 29, operations in the sterile processing department were returning to normal and the hospital had started rescheduling canceled procedures.
“The number of elective surgeries and procedures being provided at UCH will significantly increase over the coming days as we return to normal,” a hospital spokesperson said in an email to The Denver Gazette. “Urgent and emergent cases continued to be performed throughout this time.”
