Oracle Health has filed data breach reports in three states after a hack at the EHR vendor earlier this year.

The company, formerly known as Cerner, submitted the reports in July to California, South Carolina and Texas. It said 4,082 Texans and 2,989 South Carolinians were affected, while not specifying a number for California.

The reports stem from an incident discovered in March where a hacker had gained access to legacy Cerner systems as early as Jan. 22, obtaining patient information such as names, Social Security numbers and medical records, according to the company’s sample letter to patients. Oracle Health said federal law enforcement asked it to delay patient notification during the investigation.

Terre Haute, Ind.-based Union Health, Tallahassee (Fla.) Memorial Healthcare and St. Joseph, Mo.-based Mosaic Life Care are among the health systems whose patient data was ensnared in the breach, with Union Health reporting that 262,831 individuals were impacted and Mosaic Life Care placing that number at 145,269.
