Kaiser gets $5M to study AI – Becker’s Hospital Review | Healthcare News
Kaiser Permanente Northern California’s Division of Research has received a $5 million grant from the American Heart Association to study how AI can improve screening and treatment for cardiovascular disease.
The funding, announced in a July 29 news release, will support a multi-center clinical trial led by David Ouyang, MD, a research scientist at the Division of Research and a cardiologist with The Permanente Medical Group. The trial will explore how AI can enhance the effectiveness of echocardiograms, or heart ultrasounds, in cardiac care.
The study will be conducted across four sites:
- Kaiser Permanente Northern California, with Andrew Ambrosy, MD; Ankeet Bhatt, MD; and Alan Go, MD.
- Stanford Health Center, with Alex Sandhu, MD, and Jason Hom, MD.
- Los Angeles-based Cedars-Sinai Smidt Heart Institute, with Alan Kwan, MD, and Susan Cheng, MD.
- Somerville, Mass.-based Mass General Brigham, with Long Nguyen, MD; Tracey Simon, MD; and Emily Lau, MD.
