Salt Lake City-based Intermountain Health has started construction on a medical supply facility in Billings that will serve as a centralized distribution hub for hospitals and clinics across Montana.

The consolidated services center will be the first large medical supply warehouse in Montana, according to a July 29 health system news release. The center will manage the storage and shipment of more than 500,000 medical supplies annually.

“For decades, hospitals in Billings, Butte, Miles City, and beyond have relied on supplies shipped from out of state, over 500 miles away. In winter, that distance becomes a real barrier,” Lee Boyles, president of St. Vincent Regional Hospital at Intermountain Health, said in the release. “For the first time, critical supplies will be stored right here in Montana, with local courier teams delivering them where and when they’re needed. This isn’t just logistics, it’s resilience and safety.”

The project follows construction kicking off on a 737,000-square-foot replacement for St. Vincent Regional Hospital in Salt Lake City, with completion slated for 2029.
