Epic tops patient engagement rankings: KLAS

Epic continues to lead the field in patient engagement technology, according to a July 18 report from healthcare analytics firm KLAS.
The Patient Engagement 2025 report is based on feedback from 67 healthcare organizations, most of which are acute care providers.
Here are six key findings from the report:
- Seventy percent of Epic users surveyed consider the vendor to be most aligned with their organization’s patient engagement goals.
- Epic customers cited the platform’s broad and well-integrated functionality, strategic partnership approach and ongoing enhancements as key factors behind their confidence.
- The company’s MyChart platform was frequently mentioned for its self-scheduling and messaging capabilities. Respondents also noted Epic’s newer tools — such as Patient Financial Experience and Cheers — for supporting payment plans and improving screening rates.
- Additionally, 66% of Epic users said the vendor solves more than half of their patient engagement challenges.
- Still, the findings showed that some organizations using Epic are supplementing it with third-party tools. More than one-third of Epic clients said the EHR vendor does not currently meet all of their patient engagement needs. Those customers pointed to gaps in communication, education and survey functionality — areas where vendors such as Artera, NRC Health and Salesforce were seen as filling key roles.
- Epic users were more likely to continue investing in the vendor’s all-in-one platform, according to the report.
