Boston-based Athenahealth, a leading provider of network-enabled software and services for healthcare systems, has become the first healthcare IT company to migrate all eligible providers on the athenaOne network to the HSS-sponsored trusted exchange framework and common agreement, according to a July 29 news release.

For over a decade Athenahealth has taken steps toward improving data exchange across healthcare systems. This achievement enables seamless, secure and automatic access to complete medical records including clinical notes, scanned images and unstructured content.

“We’re not at the finish line though, but rather a starting point for what’s next: a future where health information follows the patient, and insights replace fragmentation to drive better care,”
said Sam Lambson, vice president of data and ecosystem platform of Athenahealth.

The company’s approach includes partnerships with organizations like CommonWell Health Alliance and support for individual access services, which allow patients to retrieve their health data through digital identity-based access without logins. Athenahealth is also rolling out ChartSync, which allows providers to access and interact with external records, further reducing administrative burden and filling gaps in clinical information.
